The project will focus on preventive and curative services. Korogoco clinic will continue to provide quality and affordable curative services. Preventive health education will comprise of HIV/AIDS , child survival and nutrition projects  

Strategic Goal

Improved health status of Mathare, Korogoco and Huruma communities, through enhanced capacity to deal with health challenges especially HIV/AIDS, nutrition and general hygiene

Key Result areas and Activities

 Health program will comprise of three components /projects namely: HIV/AIDS, Child survival, nutrition and primary healthcare. The following are key result areas of each project .

A)    Korogoco  clinic  

The clinic will be strengthened to improve the quality of services, diversify the services and increase its revenue for financial sustainability.

Out put: Increased access to quality curative health services from Korogoco Clinic

 Strategies /activities  

• RGDP with the support of the church will lobby the government to supply the clinic with some drugs and second  clinical officers to improve on service delivery

• Establish dental and eye services at the clinic to diversify the services and revenue base

• Assess quality of service delivered at the clinic and set quality standard benchmarks

• Review the performance of the staff and ensure the clinic has quality staff 

• Organise training for the staff to update them on current medical trends and practices in liaison with the ministry of health

• Undertake viability study of  a maternity wing  to diversify the services at the clinic

• Increase  the number of women accessing PMTCT services

• Strengthen networking with social workers for referrals and other organisations

• Package services provided by the clinic and market them to the communities

B)    Nutrition Project 

 The two kitchens at Korogoco and Mathare will continue to play their critical role of reversing the condition of malnourished children and provide abase for training the mothers to mitigate preventable nutrition related ailments.

Output: Health status of children between 0-5 years improved 

Strategies /activities

• The project will provide support to all  malnourished children as opposed to the current focus of recruiting  OVCs infected or affected by HIV/AIDS

• An effective  planning , procedures and systems will be put in –place to ensure the kitchens are professionally managed

• The number of children supported will be increased from 40 to 100 per year with additional funds. This is necessary since the population of children who need the service is high

• Parents /caregivers will be trained on proper nutrition so as to reduce prevalence of malnutrition among the children in the area

• Community health workers who will be expected to train additional mothers and disseminate information will be trained

• The staff managing the project will be trained on management and nutrition so as to provide the trainings to mothers and CHWs and professionally management the project

• To enhance the quality of the training , curriculum and materials  will be developed

C)    Child survival

 The project will focus on improving healthcare of vulnerable mothers and their babies’ .It will provide antenatal and maternal health care services.

Output: Health status of children between 0-5 years and their mothers improved

 Strategies /activities  

• Facilitate implementation of GOBBI-FFF for mothers and children between 0-5 years 

• Growth monitoring

•  Oral re-hydration therapy

•  Breast feeding

• Immunization

• Food security, family planning, family literacy 

• Provide support to 100 women per year

 D)    Primary health care

 Communities will be equipped with knowledge and skills to handle health issues and prevent frequent cases of morbidity.

Output: Community health education enhanced

Strategies /activities

• Develop training curriculum and materials for CHWs and communities on priority health issues

• To facilitate training of community health workers expected to train community members

• Organise health campaigns to sensitise the communities and general public on primary health issues

• Participate in international and national health forums

• Organise community training on preventive health issues
